A natural selection

We flock to the city, attracted by that sort of culture and vibrancy which only seems to spring up when people live piled on top of each other in their thousands or millions. But that urban edge comes with a price - as the people pile in the nature is squeezed out; we are removed from our natural habitat and we feel an ennui at its loss. And that's undoubtedly what motivated the artists below to bring a bit more sky, parrots and potted ferns into Manchester's grey corners.

Nice pictures and sentiments. Tesco is currently trying to buy up a green field site in Stretford, despite the minimal opportunities to enjoy such sites in Manchester. Manchester City Council is sometimes lauded for its regeneration efforts but as far as I can see it has a very poor record on encouraging or maintaining green spaces compared to other big cities.

Cheers dude.

The way they paid, I think, for the regeneration of picadilly gardens, by selling off a chunk of it and letting a great big rectangular building get put on it.

It was a public park! Couldn't they have asked?

Manchester could do a lot better, and it should do. I dream of a city with a network of off-road cycle-paths. Who'd live in London then?
